The value of the place that the story gives us is great. The preservation value of the shipyard is directly connected to the lives of the citizens who have to live and work there and lead busy daily lives. The memory of the community that shared the space is a valuable social capital that needs to be preserved for future generations.
Brand Identity
KANGKANG is a word created by the sound of “kkang kkang” when rusty paint or shells were removed from the ship’s surface with a hammer, and its name has been called since its nickname was created around that time. Yeongdo is a tabi-shaped island across from the fish market and in contact with the bridge. The two included wharves were filled with ships, and ships were active in dozens of repair shipyards. It is where you can see the original form of Busan, the marine cultural capital that originated from the port and blossomed. This place has long been known as a shipyard village. The sea of Yeongdo has waves and is warm all year round, allowing you to surf all year round. The complex cultural space KANGKANG promotes visitors from various generations through a space where surfers and those who want to relax can enjoy themselves together.
